Shooting at Chicago Starbucks Leaves One Dead and Two in Critical Condition

A man who was later identified as Sauvignon Watkins, 28, has been pronounced dead at the scene of a Starbucks located at 4753 N. Broadway on Lawrence Avenue following a shooting that occurred at about 8:10 p.m yesterday evening. Two others were also injured in the shooting including a 12-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the groin and was being treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago where he was listed in good condition, police said. The other man, 24, was listed in serious condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital with a gunshot wound to his side and is expected to make a recovery.

 

The shooting occurred as an apparent drug deal gone awry with the slain man and the shooter initially involved in a drug transaction at Wilson Avenue and Broadway but Mr. Watkins ran away into the Starbucks. The attacker, who wore dark clothing and a mask followed and opened fire on Mr. Watkins killing him and hitting the two other victims. The suspect is still at large as of press time.

 

Sauvignon Watkins is survived by two children ages 1 and 2. Anyone with more information on the suspect should contact the authorities.
